Dubai Sees a Sharp Rise in Student Numbers: Up 20% in One Year
Dubai continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading education hubs — doing so in its signature way: confidently and dynamically.
According to Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), the number of students in international universities across the emirate has increased by 8% over the past year, while the number of international students has grown by 12%. Foreigners now make up nearly one-third of the total student population — meaning roughly every third student is an international citizen who came to Dubai specifically to study.
Private universities are also showing impressive figures. In the 2024/2025 academic year, enrollment in private colleges and universities in Dubai rose by 20% compared to the previous year. Today, more than 42,000 students are studying in the emirate’s 41 private institutions.
As of 2025, more than 237,000 international students are studying in the UAE overall.
Why do students choose Dubai?
1. Internationally recognized universities
Dubai is home to over 60 universities, including branches of prestigious institutions from the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia. Many of these universities hold international accreditations, ensuring high-quality education and globally recognized degrees.
2. Modern infrastructure and technology
Universities in Dubai provide students access to cutting-edge educational technologies, including virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and digital learning platforms. This helps prepare graduates to meet the demands of the global job market.
3. Multinational environment
Students from over 200 countries currently study in Dubai, creating a unique multicultural atmosphere. This environment helps students develop intercultural competencies essential for building successful careers in today’s interconnected world.
4. Strong career opportunities
Dubai hosts the regional headquarters of numerous global corporations such as Microsoft, Google, Procter & Gamble (P&G), and Amazon. This gives students the chance to gain real-world experience through internships and opens doors to employment opportunities both in the UAE and internationally.
5. Government support
The Dubai government actively invests in education by offering scholarships and simplified visa procedures for students. Additionally, it supports initiatives that help integrate students into the workforce through internships and practical training.
Looking ahead
As part of the “Education 33” strategy, Dubai aims to increase the number of international students by 50% by 2033 and to rank among the world’s top 10 student cities. To achieve this, the emirate plans to expand academic programs and open more international university branches.
