I thought it might be of some historical interest to you knowing of the retirement years of Mrs Edwards, the lady that started Ashford Girls school. Mrs Edwards emigrated to Australia with her daughter Madeleine we believe to have been around mid to late 1930’s. Mrs Edwards’ daughter Madeleine, adopted my mothers younger brother Jim also becoming a much loved & substitute mother to my own mother who had been brought up spending many years in an orphanage. We now very much treasure many old postcards passed down to us that were sent to ‘Gran’ (Mrs Edwards) from many destinations abroad from friends & possibly past pupils & sent & addressed to her at the school. Both ‘Gran’ & ‘Aunty Mad’ we’re of the Quaker faith, great advocates of enjoying education being not only informative but also enjoyable, & also that further education being available to all. They were both extremely instrumental as our ‘Gran’ & ‘Aunt’ in ensuring we enjoyed our childhood years when fir a few years we all lived together. These years leaving us to now having fond memories of the so many stories told & the happy days out & about together. Bith ‘Gran’ & ‘Aunty Mad’ were extremely charismatic, happy & wonderful human beings. Aunty Mad spent her final years as a missionary in North Queensland living extremely frugally forsaking all her personal possessions & helping many people having had less fortunate lives & opportunities than she had been afforded. I hope this information offers a link to tge schools early years ownership & of Mrs Edwards & her daughter Madeleines later years in Australia.
