About the Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University was founded in 1873 with a $1 million donation from American industrialist and philanthropist Cornelius Vanderbilt. His goal was to create an institution that would "strengthen the bonds that should unite all people." Originally known as "Vanderbilt University at Central University," it has been pioneering from the beginning, accepting students regardless of their religion, race, or gender. Key milestones in the development were the merger with the Nashville College of Medicine in 1874 and the acquisition of the prestigious Peabody College of Education in 1979, which made it a strong center for educational research. The university consists of 10 different schools, including the famous Blair School of Music and the only Division I Athletics School of its kind in the country. Admission conditions in Vanderbilt University

Admission to Vanderbilt is highly competitive and comprehensive. The university conducts a so-called "holistic review", considering not only academic achievements, but also personal qualities, extracurricular achievements, essays and recommendations. There are two application plans available for undergraduate studies: Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision. Mandatory exams: For most undergraduate programs, Vanderbilt adheres to a "Test-Optional" policy. This means that applicants can, but are not required to provide SAT or ACT results. However, for some special programs (for example, the Blair School of Music) or for international students, tests may be recommended or required. Minimum age: Applicants usually graduate from high school and are about 17-18 years old. There is no official minimum age. The application process: Bachelor's Degree: Submission is done through Common Application, Coalition Application or QuestBridge Application. The registration fee is $50 (can be waived for eligible students). Magistracy/Doctoral studies: The application is carried out directly through the online portals of each individual school (for example, Graduate School, School of Engineering). Educational qualifications: For Bachelor's degree: A certificate of full secondary education with excellent grades, demonstrating a difficult academic load (Honors, AP, IB courses). For Master's/doctoral studies: Bachelor's or Master's degree with a high GPA (usually 3.5+ GPA on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited university. Required documents: A completed application, a school report card (transcript), letters of recommendation (usually from a school counselor and teacher), motivational essays, summaries of extracurricular activities, test results (if submitted), a portfolio (for creative specialties). Requirements for international students: Language proficiency level: Proof of English proficiency is required through TOEFL iBT tests (100+ recommended), IELTS Academic (7.0+ recommended) or Duolingo English Test (120+ recommended). Financial documentation: To obtain the I-20 form (for the F-1 student visa), you must provide proof of financial viability covering the full cost of tuition and accommodation. Transcript evaluation: Official transcript evaluation through organizations such as WES or ECE may be required. Financial Conditions: Required for all international students when applying for a visa. Vanderbilt adheres to a "need-blind" policy for U.S. citizens and provides generous financial assistance, including full coverage for accepted students. Application deadlines (Bachelor's degree): Early Decision I: November 1 (notification is mid–December). Early Decision II: January 1 (notification is mid–February). Regular Decision: January 1 (notification is the end of March). Testing or interview: Graduate interviews (Alumni Interviews) are of a recommendatory nature and are not available to all applicants. Some programs (such as the Blair School of Music) require listening. Qualifications or experience: For a bachelor's degree, a comprehensive profile with leadership and deep involvement in 1-2 extracurricular fields is important. Given the high level of competition (the admission rate is about 6-7%), successful applicants are usually in the top 1-2% of their graduating class. The average 50% of SAT scores for those who take them are approximately 1490-1570, according to ACT – 34-35.
