About the Salve Regina University
Salve Regina University is a private Catholic university of a humanities profile, founded by the Sisters of Mercy. The institution was officially chartered in 1934 and opened its doors to students in 1947 under the name Salve Regina College; men were first admitted in 1973, and the institution received full university status in 1991. The campus, covering about 100 acres, is located on the rocky coast of the Atlantic Ocean and includes numerous mansions from the late 19th century "Gilded Age," repurposed as academic buildings - the university is adjacent to the famous Newport Cliff Walk. The institution accepts the Common Application and follows a test-optional policy. Unlike Lycoming College, Salve Regina is a full-fledged university with undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, not just a college for bachelor's degrees.

Admission conditions in Salve Regina University
Admission is through the Common Application. The test-optional policy means SAT/ACT scores are not required. The university has rolling admission - applications are accepted throughout the year without a strict deadline, although there is a priority deadline of March 1. The standard application package includes the application, high school transcript, essay, and (optional) test scores - requirements are generally standard for private American universities with a humanities focus. The format of instruction is in-person on campus in Newport; separate master's and professional programs are available online, in a low-residency format, or in the evenings. In the university itself, 568 out of 2791 students are studying entirely online - mostly related to graduate programs and programs for working adults.
